The Idaho Beef Council kicked off the new Idaho BQA Program in April 2022 to provide the industry with a strong foundation to become more competitive in the current marketplace. To ensure all Idaho producers receive the same high-quality BQA training experience and that all core BQA pillars are addressed, information and tests will be standardized and implemented. Depending on the experience level of the audience, information within the pillars will be adjusted to meet industry needs.
The Idaho Beef Council received thirteen trainer applications and candidates were invited to an initial BQA training meeting. Dr. Stephen Boyles, BQA Educator of the Year winner, and his colleague, Dr. Lyda Garcia, partnered with NCBA’s BQA staff, Emma Mulvaney and Dr. Julia Herman, to provide a comprehensive overview of the BQA program resources and information. Candidate trainers had the opportunity to learn best practices in BQA training, share their experiences and provide feedback on building a robust training program. This foundation will assure that Idaho’s beef industry responds to consumer concerns and is producing the best possible quality beef to enrich consumer experience and demand for beef.
To showcase the future of the Idaho BQA program to the industry, a BQA/BQA Transportation certification training was conducted by Dr. Boyles and Dr. Garcia to give participants a glimpse at real-life situations with simulated cattle handling and a full-size tour of transport trainer systems. Following the training, Curt Pate, Livestock Handling Specialist and Dean Fish, BQA Clinician conducted a Stockmanship and Stewardship demonstration with live cattle, expanding the BQA training to real life conditions. These events set the standards and expectations for Idaho’s BQA Program.
The Idaho BQA team will be planning and announcing trainings throughout the state. Please visit www.IdahoBeefQuality.com to request group trainings or find an upcoming training in your area.
