The first week of September proved to be a busy one. In-state, we traveled north to meet with members on the topic of fire and a lack of a fuels management plan on some properties managed by state agencies. The local cattlemen brought this to our attention on a local issue and fire. As we have discussed it with folks from across the state, it seems this is not a unique situation for that particular area. This is how our process works, now moving forward we can work to help the local cattlemen solve their issue, but also address the problem at the state level in order to alleviate some of the frustrations for all cattlemen in Idaho.
In addition to our in-state issues last week, the president discovered the Wilderness Act and declared Sept. the National Wilderness Month. This is a concern for our industry as the trend of "No Management" continues in many of these areas. Also on the policy front at the national level, the Hours of Service extension has been modified to stay in place through November 30, 2021. We continue to work for a long-term and permanent solution for our industry.
Lastly, it seems there is BSE in Brazil- you can read NCBA's statement on this here.
Have a good week.
